BBP Summertime

Hunger doesn't take a break
when school lets out for the summer.

In fact, many children in Brookings dread
the end of the school year,

because they'll no longer be able to count on eating
at least one good meal
each weekday
in their school cafeteria.

Beginning in summer, 2011,
BBP is ready to assist as many of these children as possible,
aged Head Start through 12th grade.

goresearchsun-1.jpgDuring the summer BBP will provide a free weekend supply of kid-friendly meals and snacks to school-age children and youth (Head Start through 12th grade) who otherwise might not have enough to eat at home.

The food will be given to participating families at one of several pick-up sites in Brookings every Friday. The program will start the first Friday after the end of the school year and continue until school begins again in the fall.

There is NO eligibility requirement to participate.

If you are a parent or guardian who is struggling to put enough food on your family's table, please consider signing up your child(ren) for BBP Summertime.

How to Sign Up

  1.  Complete a consent form. Download the form here (English or Spanish), or get one from your child's school here in Brookings before the end of the school year. If school is already out for the summer, get a form at one of the food pick-up sites (see below). List on the form all of your school-age children (Head Start through 12th grade). This information will be shared only with BBP Summertime staff and volunteers.

  2. Cut off and return the bottom portion of the consent form to your child’s school before the end of the school year. Or, if school is already out for the summer, give the form to a BBP volunteer at one of our summer food pick-up sites (see below).

  3. Begin picking up your child’s food at the scheduled time each Friday at the site you selected on your consent form (see below)
