Traffic Up at Food Pantry
According to Don Kasak, manager of the Brookings County Food Pantry, the number of clients served has tripled over the past five years. And the number has risen dramatically in just the past year. As of the end of November, the Food Pantry had served 917 families (including 1,389 adults and 799 children) during 2009, up from 694 families (942 adults, 616 children) in 2008.
Speaking in a 12/5-6/09 Brookings Register article by Jill Fier, Kasak said that he's been impressed by the community's generous support of the Food Pantry during bleak economic times. "In this town, they really help us out," he said. "It's because people understand what we're doing."
