Guidance Counselor Exclaims over First Food Delivery
Yesterday and today, a volunteer delivered BBP's first-ever packages of food to the Brookings Public Schools and Brookings Head Start for distribution to participating students. Because of the extraordinary generosity of Brookings residents, 80 children will each receive a weekend's supply of nutritious, kid-friendly meals and snacks. They will continue to do so through the end of this academic year. More children remain on the BBP waiting list, still in need of our services, but at least we've made a start.
Nicole Bowen, Medary Elementary school counselor, was on hand this morning when the individualized bags full of cereal, fruit, peanut butter, crackers and more arrived at her building. Soon after, she dashed off an excited email to BBP, exclaiming, "We just received our food! THANK YOU! It is a lot more than we were expecting! The kids and parents will be so excited! This is a wonderful program."
BBP sends out a huge thank-you to Nicole and all the counselors and other staff in the Brookings School District and Brookings Head Start, whose partnership is vital to our work. You inform parents about BBP. You register students. You organize and oversee the distribution of food. We extend our deepest gratitude.
